The Kings Hill Hockey Club Five-Year Development Plan sets out a bold, structured roadmap for transforming the club into a leading force for hockey participation, performance, and community engagement in Kent. Building on the club’s established foundation, currently three men’s teams, three ladies’ teams, and a small junior section—the plan leverages the move to Kings Hill Sports Park and a full rebranding as Kings Hill Hockey Club to unlock substantial new growth and opportunity.
Kings Hill and the surrounding area present a significant market opportunity, with a catchment of nearly 10,000 residents and approximately 900 children aged 5–12. The club’s new home at Kings Hill Sports Park offers high-quality facilities, including a 3G pitch, multiple grass pitches, and excellent amenities. There is proven demand for youth sport, as evidenced by the success of Kings Hill FC and the area’s vibrant community infrastructure.
The plan is directly informed by successful models from other ambitious English hockey clubs. These examples demonstrate the scale and sustainability achievable through a phased, community-driven approach, strong school partnerships, and progressive professionalisation.
The plan is fully aligned with England Hockey’s vision for grassroots growth, talent development, and club sustainability. It draws on the practical, phased approach outlined in the Kings Hill Junior Hockey Coaching & Development Programme business case, emphasising progressive, age-appropriate coaching, inclusive access and removal of barriers, structured pathways from entry to excellence and community and school engagement as core drivers of growth.
By 2030, Kings Hill Hockey Club aims to be a model of best practice, offering lifelong hockey opportunities, developing future coaches and leaders, and serving as a vibrant hub for sport and community in West Malling. The plan’s phased, evidence-based approach ensures that growth is sustainable, inclusive, and delivers lasting benefit to both the club and the wider community.
